Share your clever farming ways in The Natural Farmer newspaper.

The Natural Farmer (TNF), the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) newspaper, seeks content for the upcoming spring 2024 issue themed The Clever Farmer: Adapting to Evolving Markets.

Submission Deadline: February 1. (Submission length requirements vary depending on the content.) Click here to make a submission.

Markets and distribution adapted during COVID-19. The shape of the CSA continues to evolve.  RSA’s, Restaurant Supported Agriculture, are popping up. Small farmers are continuously creating ways to distribute their food to communities so it is affordable, accessible & profitable – a difficult task.

  • Have your markets evolved over the years since you started?
  • What is the greatest missing link for your markets to be successful?
  • How do you remain responsive to your customers and community’s needs and interests?
  • What significant decisions and compromises have you had to make to adapt to changing markets?

We welcome a variety of content, including but not limited to the following:

  • Technical articles and how-to’s
  • Interviews
  • Personal essays
  • Stories
  • Photographs
  • Seasonal recipes
  • Book reviews

Technical content, issues and topics that center on racial and social equity and those applicable to growing in the Northeastern US are prioritized in TNF, as are BIPOC writers and contributors.

Compensation may be available for your time or article submission. All authors published receive a complimentary annual subscription to TNF.

TNF is published quarterly. Other upcoming themes and deadlines are:

  • Spring 2024: Evolving Markets (submissions due February 1)
  • Summer 2024: Aquaculture (submissions due May 1)
  • Fall 2024: Women in Ag (submissions due August 1)
  • Winter 2024: Farmers of Color (submissions due November 1)

The Natural Farmer (TNF), the newspaper of the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA), covers news of the organic movement nationally and internationally and features stories about farmers, homesteaders and gardeners, especially those from the 7 NOFA member states, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, and Vermont.  TNF is provided to direct subscribers and as a perk to NOFA members and is mailed quarterly to over 6000 homes.
