Join USDA NRCS, CTRCD, and CT NOFA at Green Village Initiative’s Reservoir Community Farm in Bridgeport to learn about support for urban farms and organizations. Leaders in the industry will be on hand to explain ways to get funding for urban farm infrastructure. Tour Reservoir Farm with Executive Director Ellie Angerame as she demonstrates urban farming methods that have proven successful. We hope you’ll join us!

Tentative Agenda

Tour featuring Conservation Practices & NRCS Incentives with Diane Blais, USDA NRCS, and Ellie Angerame, Green Village Initiative (GVI). (35 mins)

Heavy metals in soils presentation with free soil testing available on-site, with Jacob Isleib, USDA NRCS. Jacob will process one for demonstration and the rest can be processed while participants are onto other activities. (30 mins)

Transitioning from home gardener to farm business – being eligible for state and federal programs. Will discuss the process for matters like registering for a business with the state, tax exemption status, insurance, etc. Will provide a new farmer bucket list (“how to get started”) handout.(10mins)

Tackling grants – what’s available and how to access it. A variety of agencies/organizations will discuss available funding for farms that may include NRCS, FSA, CT Department of Agriculture, CT RC&D, and other partner organizations. (10-15mins)

Irrigation demo with Ellie Angerame, Green Village Initiative (GVI). (15-20 mins)

Importance of Soil Health – Rainfall Simulator with USDA NRCS Staff (Jacob, Morgan M, or Diane). (10-15 mins)
