Duties / Responsibilities
Four Root Farm, a Certified Organic vegetable and cut flower farm in East Haddam, CT, is now hiring for the 2024 season.
Farm Crew will assist with all aspects of vegetable and/or flower production throughout the growing season. In the early season, focus will be on starting seeds in the greenhouse and field preparation. As summer arrives, we shift to planting, followed by crop maintenance tasks such as weeding, trellising, and pruning. Late summer is consumed with harvest, and the season concludes with clean up and preparing the farm to rest through the winter months.
Our regular work week is Tuesday – Saturday, 8am – 4pm. We can have some flexibility around a preference for a Monday-Friday schedule. Our main season runs from April to November, but there is often opportunity for further hours over the winter.
Pay starts at $16 per hour, plus fresh produce and cut flowers to take home.
Desired Applicant Experience
Attention to detail is the most important qualification for this position. An interest in learning the many varied tasks that go into vegetable and flower production and a drive to work hard are crucial. Experience working on other vegetable or flower farms is a plus, but not required. Our schedule is often subject to weather conditions, so a willingness to be flexible and to work outdoors under varied conditions is expected. Early morning and/or evening availability is a plus.
The ideal crew member has:
- A positive attitude and ability to work well independently and with a crew;
- Passion for hard work, beautiful flowers and delicious produce;
- Strong attention to detail as well as keen observational skills;
- Excellent listening and communication skills;
- Tolerance for physically demanding work in less than ideal conditions such as rain and hot weather;
- Previous farming experience (though not necessary).
