Duties / Responsibilities
Cloverleigh Farm is a USDA certified organic commercial vegetable operation. We work to produce high quality vegetables, herbs, and flowers for our local community through a large CSA program, several wholesale accounts and Farm-to-School sales. Our standards are high and we expect all crew members to share these same standards.
The farm crew will be involved in: seeding, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, washing & packing. The work is very physical and is geared toward those to love to learn and work in an outdoor environment. Responsibilities include managing the same CSA pickup day each week all season.
This position is perfect for those who want to play a very integral role in a diversified farm business and enjoy learning and working in an outdoor environment. We share a property with a multi-species livestock farm and although the businesses are separate, there may occasionally be a crossover.
This is seasonal work March/April-November which slows down toward the end of the season. Typical work weeks average 40 hours/week but can fluctuate due to time of year or weather. The crew typically works Mon-Fri 8-5 during March, April, and May, then switches to 7-4 Tues-Sat until October, after which we shift back to spring hours. The day includes a 30-minute unpaid break for lunch and short paid breaks mid-morning and mid-afternoon.
Desired Applicant Experience
Requirements:
- On time (which actually means arriving early) each day.
- Attention to detail and the ability to focus on working efficiently and with skill
- Comfortable taking direction and asking good questions. Farms offer continuous learning opportunities throughout the season and every year is different.
- Positive attitude and great work ethic; good conversationalist, jumps in to help out without being asked
- Follows instructions and asks for clarification when needed
- Experience working for a farm, garden center, landscaper, restaurant, baker, construction etc. where hard work is done with your hands.
- Interest in working outdoors in hot, cold, buggy, rainy, sunny, or any and all conditions
- Ability to kneel, bend, walk, lift, and carry 30-50 lb. crates of vegetables repeatedly and consistently
- Good communication skills, kind disposition, interest in chatting with CSA members, and happy to share.
- Interest in high quality vegetable production and organic growing practices
- Comfortable working alone, in pairs, or small groups
- Driver’s license (for delivery van and on-farm vehicle as required by insurance)

• Hourly pay. $17-$20/hr. depending on experience
• $200 gear stipend for full season, $100 for summer-only work
