Assistant Property Manager

Employer: Four Root Farm

Work Location: East Haddam, CT

Compensation Range: $18-$20/hr DOE

Duties / Responsibilities

Four Root Farm is looking for an Assistant Property Manager to help with landscaping, equipment maintenance, greenhouse building and upkeep, and other “handy-person” jobs around the farm. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently on tasks from mowing to light carpentry, and be comfortable and experienced using a range of farm equipment and small tools. Duties will include:

  • Maintaining the grassy areas of our 12 acre property using a zero turn riding mower, walk-behind flail mower and brush hog, and weed trimmer;
  • Occasional tree work using a chainsaw;
  • Building and maintaining water and irrigation infrastructure for a commercial vegetable and cut flower operation;
  • Building and performing routine maintenance on greenhouses and hoop houses;
  • Using a skid steer to move, spread, and turn various materials around the farm;
  • Assisting with routine upkeep and improvements to barns and other buildings;
  • Minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry;
  • Routine maintenance and troubleshooting as necessary on machinery and equipment including but not limited to: John Deere skid steer, BCS walk behind tractor and implements, Gravely zero turn mower, standby generator, greenhouse heater, and other small tools and equipment;
  • Other tasks as assigned.
  • This is a part time position, 16-24 hours per week depending on the season.

Desired Applicant Experience

The right person will have a strong mix of agricultural, landscaping, and mechanical experience and be motivated to work independently to manage their own daily task list and troubleshoot issues as they arise. Additional qualifications include:

  • A positive attitude and ability to work well as part of a team;
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize safety and care when working with dangerous and heavy equipment;
  • Strong attention to detail and keen observational skills;
  • Excellent listening and communication skills;
  • Tolerance for physically demanding work in less than ideal conditions such as rain and hot weather.
