Duties / Responsibilities

We are seeking an individual to assist with the ongoing care and development of a large private garden and property in Sharon, CT. The objective is to cultivate a landscape that is sympathetic to the beautiful natural setting on a large parcel of private land.

We use permaculture principles and native plants to develop a large cottage garden and manage the adjacent and surrounding woodland.

Scope of Work

  • Soil development and maintenance (composting, mulching, minimal disturbance)
  • Planting and tending native perennials, shrubs, and small trees
  • Establishing and maintaining naturalistic planting areas
  • Seasonal tasks (weeding, pruning, bed preparation)
  • Supporting habitat for pollinators, birds, and other wildlife
  • Observing and responding to site conditions (light, moisture, competition, etc.)

Details

  • Part-time; schedule flexible, some availability on weekends will be helpful in the beginning.
  • 1-2 days a week to begin but opportunity for 3-4 days or full time may be available to the right candidate.
  • Compensation commensurate with experience

This role is intended as a collaborative, long-term engagement.

Desired Applicant Experience

Qualifications / Background

  • Enthusiasm for gardening and nature
  • Good communication skills and positive energy
  • Familiarity with permaculture, native plant gardening, or woodland gardening is helpful but not essential
  • Capacity for motivated independent work and sound judgment
  • Ability to lift heavy plants, dig holes, and work in warm outdoor conditions during summer
  • Reliable transportation to and from the property
