Education Coordinator

Duties / Responsibilities
Summary of Responsibility:
The Education Coordinator, under the general direction of the Executive Director, plans, coordinates, teaches, and supervises programs related to education and the environment. The Education Coordinator is also responsible for monitoring and compiling data related to the health of the property and stewardship of our woodlands, waterways, and wildlife.
Essential Functions:
- Plans, schedules, teaches, and organizes activities associated with education and the environment.
- Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates the staff associated with these programs.
- Schedule staff and organize payroll for submittal to the Financial Manager.
- Produces and tracks all contracts and payments related to education programs.
- Monitors the health of waterways and woodlands through tests, inventory, and data collections.
- Recruit, manage, and track environmental volunteers.
- Develops communications promoting environmental awareness and stewardship to our community.
- Assists with camp nature program by being a resource and ensuring these staff have access to all necessary equipment and supplies.
- Monitors income and expenses and make recommendations for annual and capital budget related to these programs.
- Recommends new programs, improvements, and their associated costs.
- Produces marketing material and promotes these programs.
Other Functions:
- Works with the Executive Director on special projects as directed.
- Assists in performing office administration tasks as needed.
- Assists with maintenance related to environmental initiatives as needed.
- Completes all other duties as assigned.

Desired Applicant Experience
Qualifications & Competencies:
- Bachelor of Science degree from a recognized educational institution in Environmental Education, Earth Sciences, or related field is required.
- Minimum two years of experience in the outdoor recreation or related field is required; previous supervisory experience is preferred.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both professional and non-professional, co-workers, management personnel, the public and others.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment with interruptions and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED training is required or ability to acquire within 6 months.
- Be willing to work extra hours including weekends and nights as required to fulfill job duties.
- Valid Connecticut Driver’s license.
- Able to think quickly, assess a situation and make a sound decision.
- Knowledge of recreation and camp related theory, principles, and practices.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office, including Excel and database software.
- Strong customer focus in all tasks and activities, even while at times under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills; able to communicate effectively and articulately in writing and orally.

This is an exempt full-time position with a starting salary of $60,000, a comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, 5% contribution to retirement plus up to an additional 3% match, health, dental, and life insurance. A degree in Environmental Science, Earth Sciences, or related field is required and a minimum of 2 years experience. Hours will include some nights and weekends.
