Job Description
Natural Dharma Fellowship is seeking an experienced Buildings and Grounds Caretaker to nurture and maintain Wonderwell Mountain Refuge (WMR), which includes our multi-level residential retreat center building and a farmhouse parsonage plus two barns on 200 beautiful acres of lawns, fields and forest in NH’s Upper Valley. The Caretaker maintains the center’s land and infrastructure to ensure both natural beauty and optimal operating results.
We are seeking a team member with a minimum of 2 years facility management experience with a demonstrated ability to organize and execute overall grounds and building maintenance plans with minimal supervision. Expertise in sustainability, conservation, natural landscaping and permaculture are a plus!
Responsibilities
- Perform and manage landscaping, tree trimming, sanding and snow removal
- Inspect all structures to determine need for repairs or renovations
- Perform routine building repairs and maintenance
- Plan and coordinate all system installations, repairs, maintenance, and monitor performance
- Ensure the upkeep of equipment and supplies to meet health and safety standards
- Oversee parking areas, trail and campsite maintenance, waste disposal, building security
- Review energy and water consumption and strive to minimize costs
- Oversee and supervise volunteers and contractors
- Develop and manage effective relationships with vendors and neighbors
- Work closely with the Buildings & Grounds Committee on facility planning and budgeting
- Assist with other duties as needed to support all WMR operations
- Treat everyone with kindness, patience, and respect in every interaction
Desired Applicant Experience
Qualifications / Experience
- 2+ years’ experience as facilities manager, caretaker, or relevant position
- Working knowledge of carpentry, electrical, mechanical, HVAC systems, and landscaping
- Demonstrated ability to work both as part of a team and independently
- Demonstrated ability to organize and execute overall grounds and building maintenance plans with minimal supervision
- Expertise in sustainability, conservation, natural landscaping and permaculture are a plus
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Sense of humor, flexibility, and willingness to perform a wide variety of tasks
- Commitment to maintaining a warm, welcoming environment for all
- A sincere interest in contemplative practice and study, and in actively contributing to a collaborative, collegial work environment
- Requires heavy physical work including snow removal as well as sometimes lifting objects of 50 pounds or more
