Eastern CT CRAFT (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training) is proud to present a farmer training at Assawaga Farm.

Meetings will start at 4pm with the host farm giving a general tour of their farm (~1 hour), then have a panel discussion (~1 hour) and then a potluck (~1 hour).  The potluck social is a great opportunity to spend time with other farmers in the region! Please bring something tasty, ideally highlighting the seasonal bounty from your farm, and your own dishes/cutlery if possible.

SEPTEMBER 21st (Monday) | ASSAWAGA FARM (Putnam, CT)
TOPIC: Compost & Microscopy
Bring your own soil/compost sample and we’ll all look at it under the microscope together!

  • 4PM- TOUR of Assawaga Farm w/ Yoko and Alex
  • 5PM- MICROSCOPY SESSION w/ Monique from CTNOFA/The Wiggle Room & Ruben from NOFA/Mass
  • 6PM- POTLUCK SOCIAL

Attendance is open to all farm workers, serious volunteers, managers, owner/operators in CT and beyond as well as family members. Eastern CT CRAFT is able to pay farmworkers $50 per person for participating for the entirety of the meeting. We will distribute stipends until we exhaust the allotted funds so it is not guaranteed for every meeting. Stipends are NOT limited to farmworkers in CT – we welcome farmworkers from other states to join us!

Am I eligible for the farmworker stipend?

You are considered a farmworker for the purposes of this stipend if you:

  • Currently work on a farm that you do not own or operate, and
  • Work an average of at least ~15–20 hours per week OR at least 3 days per week during the season
