She has fortified community seed banks internationally on island nations after natural disasters\, conducted fieldwork in the South Pacific as a Genebank Impacts Fellow for the Crop Trust\, hunted for rare endangered seeds for Seeds of Success in Idaho\, revived the local allium heirloom The Southport Globe Onion by starting a seed library and is now the lead of CT NOFA’s pollinator health initiative The Ecotype Project. She has just returned from the inaugural BOATanical Expedition- an 87 mile canoe journey down the Quinnitukqut (Connecticut) River- planting 500 native plants in pollinator gardens as she “paddled for the pollinators!” Sefra Alexandra is a WINGS WorldQuest Flag Carrier\, member of the Explorers Club + holds her M.A.T. in Agroecology from Cornell University.

Do you love to cook meat and want to know more about where particular cuts come from on the animal? \nJoin NOFA-VT at Drift Farmstead in Roxbury\, VT from home for a live-streamed webinar to learn the ins and outs of whole animal processing including the benefits of ethnically-raised pasture-based meats. Led by Mary Lake\, this virtual workshop will cover the full process from a half pig to individual cuts\, with the slaughter taking place the day before. Attendees will get an up-close look into the process for creating each cut. DESCRIPTION:Join NOFA MASS on a virtual tour of Cricket Creek Farm. \nis a small grass-based cow dairy producing a variety of products including raw-milk\, grass-fed meat and seven varieties of artisanal farmstead cheeses.  They use high density groups of cows rotated through temporary paddocks within their pastures\, allowing for the most efficient use of available forage and maximizing the benefit to livestock and soil. \nTopher Sabot\, Owner and Manager\, will discuss and answer questions about: \n\nHow they use a combination of high-tech and low-tech fencing to to manage the cows\, looking to maximize efficiency\nGrazing density and practices that provide superior nourishment for the animals while building nutrient rich and microbially diverse soil.\nTheir dairy facilities and barns\nThe fine points of producing dairy on a primarily grass-fed system.\n\nLocated in the beautiful Berkshire foothills of Western Massachusetts\, Cricket Creek Farm milks between 30-40 grass-fed cows throughout the year. Their mixed herd (primarily Jersey and Brown Swiss) is rotationally grazed on 200 acres of pasture during the summer\, and fed primarily farm produced hay and baleage in the winter. They also raise a few grass-fed beef cattle and whey-fed pigs. Their mission is to produce nourishing food that honors the animals\, respects the land\, feeds the community\, and exemplifies a sustainable model for small-farm viability. \n

By rotating densely stocked herds through fenced-off portions of your pastures\, your cattle will eat a variety of forage\, gain more weight faster\, and sequester considerable amounts of carbon in the soil. During this event attendees learn about: \n\nPasture reclamation\nFencing systems\nStocking density and grazing plans\nCreating a small-scale dairy in the basement of their house\n\nSky View Farm comprises 50 acres of hilly fields and forest in the town of Sheffield\, Massachusetts. The land has been in the Conklin family for more than 100 years. Owners Will and Amelia Conklin have been working since 2012 to reclaim pastures that were part of the Conklin family dairy farm that closed in 1986. They raise poultry\, cows\, and pigs year-round in order to provide meat for their CSA program and local restaurants. Milking 1-3 cows\, they opened a small dairy in the spring of 2019\, bottling raw milk for direct sale to customers. Sky View Farm is also home to a small-scale sawmill operation that provides local building materials for carpentry projects\, garden beds\, fencing\, and furniture.

Our goal is to keep you safe and to support you with all of your gardening needs and knowledge \nIn this classroom seminar\, horticulturist and Red Wagon employee Chad Donovan will discuss organic tactics to prevent\, identify\, and treat some of the common pests and diseases in the home garden. The focus will be on vegetables and herbs\, but these tactics often apply to ornamental plants as well. This is a great opportunity to ask questions\, brainstorm with like minded gardeners\, and find professional advice.
