DESCRIPTION:This event is part of CT NOFA’s Skill Share program\, produced in partnership with UConn Extension’s Solid Ground program. \nGo through a season of growing hemp with this skill share as you meet up multiple times during the growing season to observe and discuss the processes of seeding\, harvesting\, and processing hemp for fiber production. If you are looking to add this into your growing operation as a product\, or if you already grow it\, but haven’t grown it with hemp fiber mind\, this is the skill share for you. \nThis skill share will be conducted over the course of three field days\, each focused on specific aspects of the hemp fiber growth cycle: \n\nSEEDING: May 20th (rain date May 21st)\nHARVESTING: September 14th\nPROCESSING: TBA\, scheduled for November\n\nThis skill share program is free to attend. SUMMARY:Soil Health Field Day: Tree and Shrub Establishment
DESCRIPTION:Join CT NOFA for a hands-on workshop on establishing native trees and shrubs on farmland and properties throughout Connecticut. We’ll take a look at planning\, planting\, and maintenance of trees and shrubs at The Hickories farm over the years. Demonstrations will include site selection\, soil preparation\, and sourcing of appropriate plant material for specific locations. \nThe workshop includes support from experienced growers with a focus on native woody trees and shrubs; hazelnut\, inkberry\, winterberry\, witch hazel\, viburnums\, pussy willow\, and black willow\, as well as ecotypic pollinators. \nThis workshop is presented by CT NOFA in partnership with The Hickories and Eco59 (formally CT NOFA’s Ecotype Project)\, an initiative for best practices around finding the most appropriate plant materials that support our natural environment. \nAOLCPs from CT NOFA’s Organic Land Care Program will earn CEUs for attending this field day\, and may do so for free.
